symmary game X-COM: UFO Defense (CD-ROM Version)

A CD-ROM re-release (for Windows 95 machines) of the classic game by Microprose. X-COM: UFO Defense holds a fond place in any true PC gamer’s heart. This squad-based strategy title was awesome for so many reasons. It was incredibly in-depth for its time (even more so than most games today), its slowly unfolding storyline gave you the sense that you were up against overwhelming odds without ever being frustrating, and the individual battles — in part because of the game’s turn based engine — served up a tension and suspense that we’ve experienced in no game since (there’s nothing quite like the feeling of opening a door and seeing an alien just as your movement points run out). All this and the ability to rename all of your squad-mates as you real-life friends so you can cry (or laugh) when they get caught in a grenade blast makes X-COM a game that will live on in the annals of computer gaming history.

In System Shock, biological engineering and automation merge in a raging storm completely out of human control. An indentured hacker, you awake from a healing coma on board the space station Citadel only to find yourself in the twisted aftermath of a mutiny. The crew has been mutated beyond recognition to serve SHODAN, a ruthless computer that controls station operations. With your neural implant, you can “jack” into cyberspace (SHODAN’s realm) to steal clues to the mystery. Creeping past armies of cyborgs and robots, you find hardware that grafts to your powersuit and neural apparatus, including infrared cyber-eyes, jump-jet boots and an arsenal of weapons. Multi-function displays pump information to the screen, describing artifacts, warning of biohazards and radiation, analyzing targeted foes, and decrypting cyberspace messages. Shaking from adrenalin and information overload, you scarcely have time to think before SHODAN unleashes yet another terror. System Shock is a First Person Shooter but it isn’t your traditional run and gun game.

It’s time to take a road trip at the fastest speeds in auto racing history. Travel across the country in a race to prove your mettle in this accurate re-creation of the coin-operated classic. Motor down straightaways and hug the curves as you try to blow by the competition. Using acceleration, lane changes, and some basic smarts; you’ll trek from the beaches of California through the Rocky Mountains, out to the plains, and back again. Of course, it’s not all about speed; planning and executing the best race strategy is key to victory in OUTRUN.

Sequel to the popular puzzle game that has players guide clueless cartoon lemmings through trap- and peril-laden 2D levels. The story in this one goes that the twelve lemming tribes of Lemming Island lived happily and peacefully when a great darkness fell upon their land. And so the lemmings set out to evacuate their island, using the power of the Lemming Talisman — a treasure split into 12 pieces. Only by getting together at the center of the island and reuniting the pieces, the lemmings can escape. The 12 unique tribes in the game are: Beach, Classic, Cavelem, Circus, Outdoor, Egyptian, Highland, Medieval, Polar, Shadow, Space and Sports. As in the previous game, the lemmings can use a variety of skills to get through the stages.
